Hearts in the Ice | Glaciologist Heidi Sevestre

Heïdi is a glaciologist, fellow international of The Explorers Club, host of science documentaries for french TV. Born in the heart of the french Alps, Heidi obtained her PhD in glaciology from the University Centre in Svalbard and Oslo University. She is very much a field glaciologist, having joined and led expeditions in the polar regions and in high altitude environments. Her expertise lies in ice dynamics, and ice shelves. Today, she works as a science communication specialist and leads several projects in science outreach and climate change education.

Join Sunniva Sorby and Hilde Strom live from a remote trappers cabin called ‘Bamsebu’, in Svalbard, located 78’ north and 140 km from the nearest neighbour. Each month we have an event with them, each being a different theme with a different scientist joining in w.ith us. Sunniva and Hilde will spend 9 months overwintering in Svalbard, this is a historic expedition in that no women have over-wintered in Svalbard without men. Throughout their time there, they will be taking part in multiple citizen science experiments.
